Em direção a Belém
A primeira reunião sobre os preparativos para a próxima Conferência sobre Mudanças Climáticas (Climate Change Conference - COP30) ocorreu no Parlamento Europeu (Bruxelas) na última terça-feira, 24 de setembro. Eu tive o prazer de participar como Coordenador Geral da @Rede Sem Fronteiras.
O objetivo principal do evento foi educar os participantes sobre as zonas úmidas, destacando seu papel no combate às mudanças climáticas, apoiando espécies diversas, fornecendo benefícios econômicos e sociais e a necessidade urgente de protegê-las de inúmeras ameaças.
O evento reuniu autoridades e ativistas brasileiros que testemunharam em primeira pessoa a destruição do Pantanal e se concentrou em levantar questões e fornecer respostas sobre como a UE poderia contribuir para a proteção das zonas úmidas e como elas podem ser incluídas nas prioridades da agenda climática da UE e na COP30 em Belém, Brasil.
Foi um bom começo, mas precisamos falar mais sobre os temas centrais como as populações afetadas e deslocadas, o agronegócio e o atual modelo de desenvolvimento.
The first meeting on the preparations for the next Climate Change Conference (COP30) took place at the European Parliament (Brussels) last Tuesday 24 September. I have participated as General Coordinator of @Rede Sem Fronteiras.
The primary aim of the event was to educate attendees about wetlands, highlighting their role in combating climate change, supporting diverse species, providing economic and social benefits, and the urgent need to protect them from numerous threats.
The event gathered Brazilian authorities and activists who have witnessed first-hand the destruction of the Pantanal and focused on raising questions and providing answers about how the EU could contribute to the protection of wetlands and how they can be included in the EU's climate agenda priorities and at COP30 in Belém, Brazil.
It was a good start, but we need talk about the affected and displaced populations, agribusiness and the current development model.
